How Much Does Motorhome Servicing Cost In The UK?

Regular motorhome servicing is one of the most important, and most overlooked, parts of motorhome ownership. Whether you've just picked up your first campervan or you've been touring for years, knowing what to expect from a service and how much motorhome servicing costs in the UK helps you plan your year without any nasty surprises.

What Type Of Motorhome Service Do You Need?

Most motorhomes require two separate types of servicing each year: a habitation service and a vehicle (engine) service. These cover very different things, so it's worth understanding both before booking.

The habitation service focuses on the living area of the vehicle – everything that makes your motorhome a home rather than just a van. The vehicle service covers the mechanical side: the engine, brakes, steering, tyres and other chassis components, much like a standard car or van service.

Some dealers and workshops offer combined packages that bundle both into a single annual visit, which can save time and occasionally money.

What Does A Habitation Service Include?

A habitation check, carried out to National Caravan Council (NCC) standards, typically covers:

  • Gas systems & appliances (hob, oven, space heater, water heater)
  • Electrical systems (12V, 230V, leisure battery & solar if fitted)
  • Water & plumbing systems, including waste tanks
  • Damp & moisture – checks throughout the body & roof
  • Fire safety equipment (alarms, extinguishers, CO detectors)
  • Ventilation, windows, doors & body seals
  • Awning operation & exterior fixtures

Having this checked annually is particularly important for damp detection. Moisture ingress can go unnoticed while causing significant structural damage if left unaddressed. Catching it early is far cheaper than repairing it later.

How Much Does Motorhome Servicing Cost In The UK?

Prices change based on the workshop, location and size of the vehicle. This can be used as a brief guide from 2025:

  • Habitation service only: £210–£300 (plus parts)
  • Vehicle engine service: £150–£300 depending on engine type
  • Combined habitation + engine service + MOT packages: from around £500–£650 +VAT

Standalone checks, such as a gas only inspection or a damp report, typically start from around £85. An ALDE central heating fluid change (required every five years) can add around £240 to the bill.

Labour rates at approved workshops generally run from £60–£90 per hour, so any additional repairs identified during the service are charged on top of the standard service fee. Always ask for a written estimate before work begins.

What Affects The Price?

There are multiple factors which can affect the price of motorhome servicing, these include:

  • Vehicle size: Twin-axle motorhomes cost more to service than single-axle models due to additional checks
  • Age & condition: Vehicles may need more parts replaced during servicing
  • Location: Workshop rates in London & the Southeast are often higher than elsewhere in the UK
  • Approved workshop status: Workshops accredited under the NCC's Approved Workshop Scheme (AWS) are held to a defined standard, worth paying a small premium for the peace of mind

How Often Should A Motorhome Be Serviced?

Annual servicing is the standard recommendation for both habitation and vehicle checks, regardless of how many miles or trips you've done. If your motorhome has been in storage over winter, a pre-season habitation check is sensible before heading out. Motorhomes over three years old also require an annual MOT, so it makes sense to align that with your vehicle service to keep it all in one visit.
